If you were out and about today on Main Street, you might have seen actor John Krasinski walking the area and scouting locations for a possible visit to the City once again.
According to Mayor Mark Blask “We are doing everything we can to make this happen. We know what a positive experience it was for the City last time both monetarily and on the coolness scale, and we want to have them back.”
Krasinski had confirmed in February that he is going to direct A Quiet Place 2 with the release date of May 15, 2020.
“A Quiet Place” filmed in 2017 throughout Upstate New York, shooting scenes in Little Falls, Pawling, New Paltz, and Beacon.
Specific locations for filming have not been announced, and it’s unclear if there will be any opportunities for open casting calls or if they will even select Little Falls.
“A Quiet Place” was one of the best-reviewed and top-grossing movies of 2018, earning $340 million worldwide on a $17 million budget. The film follows a family forced to live in silence, using sign language to communicate while hiding from monsters with ultra-sensitive hearing in a post-apocalyptic world.
Krasinski stated “Why I had this little idea that’s now gotten bigger is most sequels are about a villain returning or a hero returning, and you have to build this entire world around just the idea that I have a hero or a villain. That’s a lot, and I think that’s where a lot of sequels go wrong because as much as you love that hero or villain, the entire thing is fabricated just to make that person work.”
“With A Quiet Place 2, we have the world. So it’s actually the world that’s built, it’s the idea that the rest of the world is going through this exact same experience. Are there other people that have to survive like this? It’s that idea of living through the set of circumstances, not again in the same way obviously, but exploring it more. You only got to do it intimately for a small amount of time, so what happens next?” he said.
The original feature left off with Emily Blunt’s protagonist, Evelyn Abbott, rifle-in-hand, ready to take down the aliens swarming her farm where she and her kids had cloistered.
